Making The Correct Choice Of Pram Or Pushchair

Choosing the correct pram is probably one of the most important buying decisions for baby equipment you will make. Get it wrong and it can prove to be very expensive get it right and it can help to make mums life a lot easier and those first few months with baby much more pleasurable.
The major factors you have to consider are practicality, comfort for baby, style and fashion.

Practicality

It is advisable to buy your pram or pushchair to suit your lifestyle. Do you mainly travel by car, public transport or will you be walking most of the time. Where will you be walking, in town on pavements and smooth surfaces or in the country on rough roads, tracks and country walks.
A pram with a larger wheel, air tyres and a sprung chassis or suspension will be easier to use on rough surfaces and be much more comfortable for baby.

If you will be in and out of cars and public transport often you will need a pram that is compact folding to fit into the car and one that has easy manouverability for public transport. Also it is advisable to ensure that whatever type of pram or pushchair you buy that you have adequate storage at home for it as with a new baby you will suddenly find that your home is not as large as it once was!

Types and Styles of Prams
There is usually three basic types of pram chassis available today.

1..The traditional large sprung, fold flat chassis normally now with air tyres from leading brands like Babystyle. This style used with a carrycot is probably the most comfortable and secure for baby.

2..Next is the telescopic folding pram or pushchairs such as the Cosatto, Britax and Quinny models which have large rear air tyres but fold much more compactly than the traditional sprung.

3..Third style is the umbrella folding pushchair type from Maclaren and Chicco which is the lightest and most compact folding of them all.

Most of the models above will either be available as 3 in 1 prams that convert into a pushchair and can be used with a carrycot or the pushchair seat will convert into a pram body and both types will usually be available with a matching infant car seat that will fit onto the pram chassis transforming it to a travel system.
